Scope
The
Virtual Herbarium presents information on Southeastern vascular plants
from the University of North Carolina Herbarium. The Southeast comprises
the states of Delaware, Maryland, West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina,
South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi,
Alabama, Louisiana, and Arkansas.
Vascular
or higher plants are those with true vascular tissue in their stems
and include: the ferns, horsetails, clubmosses, and other spore bearing
plants (these are the vascular plants without seeds); the pines, cypresses,
cedars and other non-flowering seed plants (these are the vascular
plants with seeds but without flowers); and the flowering plants (these
are the vascular plants with both seeds and flowers).
