Why people came to the conference

Interview by Pamela Brown

I asked Wendy Malkowski, a social worker and director of the Crisis Intervention Program of Urban Ministries of Raleigh, about why she came to this NC Hunger Network Conference.

"To raise my personal awareness of hunger," her "personal and professional awareness," she said. In her work she encounters many people in truly desperate situations, even people in medical emergencies because there is no more money to help them buy insulin shots for their diabetes.

Hunger is obviously a problem faced by many people in such tough times, and the people who attend the Hunger Network Conference really helped her understand a lot about what people facing hunger and poverty need.

  Pamela Brown lives in Lillington.
