North Carolina Travel
As ibiblio is based in North Carolina, we host a number of sites about the history and culture of North Carolina. In 4th and in 8th grades, NC common core standards dictate that students learn NC history and culture.
You may browse all of these resources using the North Carolina Culture tag, I've listed some of my favorites below.
Beautiful video about making molasses the old way in Union Mills NC.
The Textile Heritage Museum is located in Burlington NC - click the history and archives pages to read and see photos about textile history in North Carolina.
The Gaston County Museum has some great virtual exhibits and videos about current exhibits under the 'view' tab, and some great Museum from Home resources under the 'learn' tab.
Great collection of oral history resources about life in a Southern Cotton Mill town. Includes images, recorded interviews and teaching resources.
The Southern Oral History Program is an amazing resource from the UNC Center for the Study of the American South. It houses over 5000 interviews from people across the south about their experiences living in the south. You can browse all interviews, but I'd suggest starting with the digital exhibits. Teachers will want to check out the K-12 education resources.
